Duffy Simpson Volunteer of the Year Award

Established in 2021 - The Duffy Simpson Volunteer of the Year Award is presented Annually

Anyone that ever met Duffy Simpson remembers meeting Duffy Simpson. On or off the ice, Duffy's contributions to the club are considerable, but it is his genuine love for the sport, the membership and his good nature that we remember the most.

Born in Hamilton Ontario in 1958, Duffy trained as an apprentice in the military before his retirement in 1998 after which he embarked on his second career with Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company. Finding his way to us in the Comox valley, Duffy brought his passion for curling and gave selflessy to the improvement of our club. He was humble in both his service and as a silent financial benefactor. Culminating in his service as club president where he spearheaded the new elevator construction in the building.

Duffy is a constant presence in our hearts at CVCC, with his family and partner Gillian whose time together was cut far too short. With a smile that lights up any room, there was no greater representative of curling and more importantly, the joy of life.

This award is inspired by his memory and awarded to a candidate that has acted in Duffy's spirit to improve the experience for all members of the Comox Valley Curling Centre
