CVCC AWARDED CLUB OF THE YEAR & MANAGER OF THE YEAR FROM CURL BC!

We got a little press this week (and we didn't even write it!) . Thanks again to the entire team for the great efforts in helping the CVCC grow! Great ice, great ideas, great vision, great spirit...all of this is a little embarrassing...but we'll take it! Curl BC executives will travel to Courtenay this fall to give the awards in a night of fun and celebration. Details and date to be announced! Nice to see the growth and spirit at the club recognized! Salutations to every curler for having fun on the ice, the endless hours put in by volunteers, the dedication and vision of the Board of Directors under President Sharon Walker, the great ice from Gord Twanow, and the daily friendly efforts of office, lounge, janitorial, and kitchen staff. Manager Keith Parry also won the Curl BC Administrator/Manager of The Year Award. So hats off to everyone!

SCHMIDT WINS PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL CUP! AGAIN!

Congratulations and expanded trophy space to Ron Schmidt, Norm Coté, Mike Meeres, and Darren Richards for claiming the recent Pacific International Cup that just wrapped up April 21st at Richmond Curling Club, taking the top prize against a field of teams from across the United States, Canada, and abroad including India, Australia. The boys kicked the infamous Royal City team 8-1 in the final! Salutations are also due to Deb Morrissey and her squad, who went 4-3 and narrowly missed out on a playoff birth! Thanks to both teams for making us proud again and again!

BATTLE OF THE BREWERIES! KEG CURLING FUNDRAISER!

CUMBERLAND BREWING CO vs FORBIDDEN BREWING vs GLADSTONE vs LAND & SEA!

All of the Comox Valley's craft breweries make amazing beer. Of that we are certain. But of the four, who has what it takes in on ice keg curling skills, strategy, intimidation, sweeping, and that indefinable will to win? Saturday March 23 at 8 PM we will all find out! This will the world's first keg curling battle, all for a great cause.

This is a special spectator friendly and fan participation event.

In addition to the fierce on ice competition between the breweries, anyone in attendance at the club will be welcome to try shooting a beer keg themselves. For $5.00 a shot, anyone can try shooting a real beer keg down the ice. Whoever gets their beer keg shot closest to the button (center of the curling rings) will win an amazing brewery gift pack with beer, apparel and an assortment of sudsy prizes. All proceeds from this event will go to Comox Valley Coldest Night of the Year in direct support of the the CV Transition Society. Each brewery will also have at least one of their beers on tap at the Extra End Lounge at the club for spectators to sample. The Battle of the Breweries is part of the Saturday evening entertainment during the first ever Pros and Joes Funspiel. This is a brand new event that is specifically aimed to give new and less experienced curlers a taste of a weekend bonspiel. For the three day March 22 – 24 duration of the Pros and Joes,  the CVCC will donate 50 cents from every pint of beer sold, as well as hold a 50/50 and other prize draws, all contributing towards this worthy and timely cause.
The Battle Of The Breweries Keg Curling Fundraiser is open to the public and free of charge/admission by donation! Visit the Comox Valley Curling Club, throw a beer keg alongside actual brewers, and support those locally in need via the CV Transition Society.

ALL ARE WELCOME AT PROS & JOES FUNSPIEL!

Many people have taken the Pros & Joes makeup of their bonspiel team too literally. You may have four Joes (less experienced curlers) if you like. In fact you could have four curlers with NO experience! You also could have four Pros, just be prepared to have some fun and not take things too seriously. The main thing, we want to have a full 24 teams and make sure the last weekend of the season is a great party! Grab friends, family, co-workers, enter the Pros & Joes Funspiel!

CODY HALL RETURNS FOR HANGOVER GLORY!

The 50th (or was it the 47th? there are issues with counting) Hangover Bonspiel just wrapped up, and it took everyone a few days to recover! Winning the A Event was the CVCC's former icemaker extraordinaire Cody Hall and team of Victoria hotshots (skip Miles Craig, third Paul Dixon, 2nd Ryan Cassidy) returning to conquer his old stomping grounds! Team Hall took down the very game Tyler Somerville squad in the championship final. It was awesome to see Cody back! Is that a tattoo Victoria Curling Club manager Paul is sporting? First in B was the Muir team from Esquimalt: Doug Muir, Doug Leask, Will Lamb, and Jim Williams. Doug Leask also took home the Spirit of the Spiel award encompassing all that is Hangover curling! And he didn't even need to ride a dayglo orange kayak down the stairs to do it! Thanks Doug! Taking the C Event trophy was Victoria's Justin Kitcher. Congrats to Justin, Joe Ferguson, Nick Coleman, and Adrian Farough. Last but not least, expanding their already substantial collection of Pickle Dishes, the D Event marathon winners were our very own Mike Meeres team. Well done Mike, Mike Imrie, Dan Brennan, and Darren Richards. Always a colourful weekend, thanks to the Hangover League for running such a fun event in amazing Chuck Barris style, and all 44 out of town and local teams for crushing something like 20 kegs. That's about 2300 pints of quality craft beer!

TEAM RICHARDS WIN CHILLIWACK LADIES BONSPIEL!

BEER & BURGER FUNDRAISER TONIGHT!

Fresh off their undefeated run and win over a very competitive field at the Chilliwack ladies bonspiel, Team Richards (Gracelyn Richards, Chanelle Meeres, Keelie Duncan, Bryn Woloshyn) are hosting their Beer and Burger Fundraiser tonight. The girls have been out practicing daily and bonspieing weekly for their upcoming trip representing all of BC at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, as well as this year's upcoming Vancouver Island and provincial playdowns. The financial burdens to be elite curlers are heavy, with travel, accomodations, meals out, and missed work for supportive parents and families. Tonight is a chance to let the girls know how proud we are of them, get fed, and cheers them with a fine beer (or pop!) at the same time. Thursday Jan 24 5 PM to 9 PM!
