The Bartle & Gibson Mixed Bonspiel was yet another un-matched three day curling party! A very strong field of twenty-eight teams entered, a nice mix of out of town and CVCC curlers. The lone team going undefeated, and winning the Ron Assante Wealth Management A Event grand prize was Kevin May and his Campbell River Curling Club squad. Congrats to Kevin, Michelle Twanow, Andrew Vieldhiuse, and Dodie Braithewaite! Why does it seem like I am just re-writing last year's bonspiel summary? Oh yeah, Kevin May and this exact same team won last year too! Runners up for the grand prize was the Deb Morrissey team. Well done to skip Deb, (third) Blaire Bezaire, (2nd) Karly King Simpson, and Mike Morrissey (lead)!
The Island Honda B Event Championship went to the CVCC's Carr-Hilton. Well done to skip Cliff Carr-Hilton, Nicole Montgomery, Kevin Maxwell and Paisley Carr-Hilton. The CDTA (Comox District Teachers Association) C Championship was taken by the Bridges team, who knocked off a who's who list of past bonspiel winners in game after game! Yay to skip Father Guido Sarducci, with Diane Calder, Alan "Bunwich" Bunn, and Cathy Cockwill. The CVCC's team Caton took the Gladstone Brewing Co. D Trophy. Congratulations to skip Mike Caton with Michelle Haider, Don McCllelan, & Lesley Hruby! Sure Copy Courtenay was our Calcutta sponsor, and loads of cash was handed out for those who blindly ended up owning one of the Trophy winning teams.
The bonspiel had a Saturday Night Live theme with many amazing creative costumes. The two Best individual costume prizes went to Al Bridges as Father Guido Sarducci (in a landslide) and Karly King Simpson as Sally O'Malley. The best team prize was a tough one to call, but when the dust (and dicks) settled team What's In The Box claimed the glory.
Pizza's were provided by VisionWorks Optometry, thanks Karly and VisionWorks!!!
Thanks to all the usual suspects: Larry and his crew for the great food all weekend, CVCC ice/bar/office & janitorial staff, Robin and Step from Lucky Karaoke, and returning for the final time; bonspiel chair Adam Duncan, who kept things ridiculously fun for three great days. Bonspiels don't happen without out of town teams, nor the support of our amazing sponsors. So hats well off for Bartle & Gibson and their fearless local leader Garrett Herrling, Gladstone Brewing Co., Ron Schmidt Assante Wealth, Island Honda, Comox District Teachers Association, Sure Copy, Jet FM, & Vision Works. Wheww! We can barely wait for next year!
