Hangover Bonspiel Results 2023

The 2023 Hangover Bonspiel was a huge success!
It had been three long years since we hosted the Eric Chayko Memorial Hangover Bonspiel, and the 44 teams of gentlemen that took part January 19 to 22 made this an epic return. It was also great to see the new Canada Health guidelines announced that week and that all 176 curlers limited their alcohol intake to 2 drinks over the 4 days!
Thanks to bonspiel chair Captain Steve Thurber for leading this new era! Thanks to the numerous teams from out of town, thanks to the usual suspects: Gord and his crew for somehow making consistent great ice; a real feat with so few scrapes scheduled due to the number of teams and the crazy long hours involved (there were midnight and 1 AM game start times!), the run off their feet bar and kitchen staff, managers and admin kickdogs hopping about in between their games, all the volunteers. It was a glorious weekend!
And the winners were:
Crown Isle A Event: Team Lee (Neil Imada, Bob Lee, Jesse Tiede, Graham Lee) taking down Brendan Neff and his Nanaimo squad in the Championship final
Bartle & Gibson B Event: Team Wright (from Vancouver: Dwayne Wright, Paul Keelan, Porkpie Pat Patterson, Peter Lee) over Bernes in the final
Tracey Fogtmann Re/Max C Event: Team Sutton (CVCC/Victoria: Dennis Sutton, Neil Dangerfield, Derek Coulombe, Blair Cusack) over Joanisse
Barry Edgett Family Memorial D EVENT: Team Coté (CVCC/Campbell River: Norm, Kevin May, Randy Baert, Aiden Coté ) over Cowichan's McLeod in the battle for the Pickle Dishes!
and last but not least...drum roll please...the Spirit of the Spiel Award went to Kevin May. Who doesn't love that guy?
