The Bartle & Gibson Bonspiel was held on January 13th - 15th
The body hurts, but the smiles continue! The Bartle & Gibson Mixed Bonspiel was an un-matched three day curling party! Let's get you up to speed on what you might have missed, or might have forgot if you were here! Twenty-eight teams entered, a nice mix of out of town and CVCC curlers.
The lone team going undefeated, and winning the Bartle & Gibson grand prize was Denis Sutton and his CV/Victoria squad. Congrats to Denis, Trisha Habermehl, and south island imports Mike, and Georgia! It took an extra end for team Sutton to narrowly edge the 196 years of on ice experience the Jack Holden team boasts. Well done to skip Jack, (third) Mickey and (2nd) Dennis Colburn, and Mary Holden (lead)!
The Gladstone Brewing B Event Championship went to the Melanie Rait team. Well done to skip/third Melanie, 4th stones Keith Parry, 2nd and lead Burke & Linda Martin. The Thrifty Foods C Championship was taken by the Rick Aker team. Yay to Rick, Cheryle Cashman, Rick Johns, and Jill Cornwell! The well decorated Dan Brennan team won the Jet FM D Trophy. Congratulations to Dan, Crystal Murray, Tim Corkery, and Jenn Zbinden.
The bonspiel had an electric 80's theme...the amount of great costumes and dayglo everything was blinding. Well done to best dressed individual Trevor Coghill (who rocked multiple outfits over the weekend), and WakaWaka was the easy choice for best dressed team.
Thanks to all the usual suspects: Larry and his crew for the great food all weekend, CVCC ice/bar/office & janitorial staff, DJ Tim Horner, all the numerous volunteers (Ray, Mare, Keelie, Carly, Allan, so many more!) and new bonspiel chair Adam Duncan, who kept things ridiculously fun for three great days. Bonspiels don't happen without out of town teams, nor the support of our amazing sponsors. So hats well off for Bartle & Gibson and their fearless local leader Garrett Herrling, Gladstone Brewing, Thrifty Foods, Jet FM, and Sure Copy Courtenay. Can't wait for next year's Mixed
